Saskatchewan Emergency Plan

While the initial response to peacetime emergencies and disasters is, in most cases, a municipal responsibility, there will be occasions when the situation is beyond their capability to manage. One or more departments, Crown corporations or agencies of the Government of Saskatchewan may then provide assistance. The Saskatchewan Emergency Management Organization sets forth the internal government organizational structure and arrangements for providing such assistance as well as the procedures to follow in emergency operations. The Joint Emergency Preparedness Program (JEPP)

Is a federal cost-sharing arrangement with Provinces across Canada for emergency preparedness projects. Saskatchewan uses some of this funding to deliver the Provincial Training Program. The rest of the funds are made available to municipalities for cost-sharing emergency preparedness projects such as developing emergency plans, training and education, telecommunications and specialized vehicles and equipment. In order to be eligible to apply for this funding, municipalities must:

  • have an emergency bylaw in place (in accordance with The Emergency Planning Act;
  • have an operational emergency plan (in accordance with The Emergency Planning Act; and,
  • be a member of mutual aid area.
