Under Section 732.1(3)(a), reporting to a Probation Officer is one of the optional conditions that can be imposed on an offender. The Criminal Code further directs the offender to notify the Court or Probation Officer of any change to his/her name, address, employment or occupation under Section 732.2(3) of the Criminal Code. The Probation Officer is designated authority to make application to the Court to:

a) Make changes to the optional conditions of a Probation Order;
b) Relieve the offender of compliance with any optional condition;
c) Decrease the period for which the Probation Order is to remain in force.

Every offender subject to supervision by a probation officer is assessed under the case management policy and expected to participate in programs and services that address their specific needs. The case plan developed for each offender is unique to that offender's needs and circumstances.

In Saskatchewan, aboriginal offenders account for the largest percentage of the sentenced population.  Included in the “Aboriginal” category are Status, Non-status and Métis people as self-declared at the time of admission.  Corrections does not require individuals to declare their status and respects their right not to do so.  These are identified in a separate category.  All other ethnic groups are combined into the Non-Aboriginal category.
