The Provincial Disaster Assistance Program (PDAP) provides financial assistance in certain circumstances where there has been a natural disaster, such as flooding, tornadoes, plow winds and severe weather. PDAP does not provide financial assistance for drought losses, fire losses or fire-related costs. Assistance under PDAP is provided to eligible claimants in a municipality that has been designated eligible as a result of a substantial loss or damage to uninsurable, essential property caused by the natural disaster. PDAP is not intended to compete with private insurers or provide full compensation for substantial losses or damage to property. The program is accessed through the local municipal office. When a natural disaster occurs, contact the local municipal office as soon as possible to provide the location of loss/damage and the estimated value of uninsurable, essential loss. Program staff work with municipalities and residents and will assist in making applications to PDAP. The program is cost-shared with each claimant and uses a formula to determine the percentage of loss recoverable.
