Under the ministry's Violence Reduction Strategy, the Supportive Employment Initiative will help offenders connect with employers as a way to integrate back into the community.

Offenders under Intensive Supervision/Electronic Monitoring are referred to the program through the courts. Typically, a probation officer prepares a report for the court, assessing whether electronic monitoring should be explored as a sentencing option. Before entering the program, offenders are screened using information shared with the probation officer and probes into other areas, such as health issues, stability of family relationships, a fixed residence and addiction issues.

If an offender is judged to be an acceptable candidate for electronic monitoring the conditions imposed on the offender are included in a Probation or Conditional Sentence Order, which is supervised by a probation officer.
