$8.9 million in grants to the Fishing Lake and Waldsea Lake communities will assist with flood protection for property that was damaged from high water levels during spring flooding in 2007.
- Assistance under the Provincial Disaster Assistance Program is provided to eligible claimants in a municipality that has been designated eligible as a result of a substantial loss or damage to uninsurable, essential property caused by the natural disaster.
- PDAP does not provide financial assistance for drought, fire losses or fire-related costs.
- The Provincial Disaster Assistance Program provides financial assistance in certain circumstances where there has been a natural disaster, such as flooding, tornadoes, plow winds and severe weather.
- PDAP is not intended to compete with private insurers or provide full compensation for substantial losses or damage to property. The program is accessed through the local municipal office.
- When a natural disaster occurs, contact the local municipal office as soon as possible to provide the location of loss/damage and the estimated value of uninsurable, essential loss. Program staff work with municipalities and residents and will assist in making applications to PDAP. The program is cost-shared with each claimant and uses a formula to determine the percentage of loss recoverable.
- Registration of Claim (application) forms will be available at the local municipal office once the municipality has met the criteria to be designated eligible.
- Adjusters are appointed and will provide estimates on eligible costs. Claimants will receive an advanced payment of 40% of the total eligible amount, along with an option to proceed either with the remaining amount based on the adjuster's estimate, or with the actual invoices for the eligible work.
