The Building Standards Unit (BSU) hosts and participates in various events promoting the construction of safe, healthy, habitable buildings. Check this page often for upcoming events.

Saskatchewan adopts the National Building Code of Canada (NBC) as the minimum standard for the construction and renovation of buildings. The National Fire Code of Canada (NFC) is adopted as the minimum standard for the fire safe operation of buildings and facilities. The Uniform Building and Accessibility Standards Act (the UBAS Act) together with The Fire Prevention Act, 1992 (the FPA) provide the legislative framework for application of minimum standards for new construction, renovation and the fire safe operation of buildings.

The Uniform Building and Accessibility Standards Act (the UBAS Act) delegates the administration of minimum building standards to local authorities (municipalities and regional parks). The Building Standards Unit (BSU) provides advice and review of building bylaws and makes recommendations for approval to the Minister of Corrections, Public Safety and Policing (CPSP).

The Building Standards Unit (BSU) provides support to building owners, industry, municipalities and code users on the effective application of The Uniform Building and Accessibility Standards Act (the UBAS Act) and the National Building Code of Canada (NBC).

The Saskatchewan Building and Accessibility Standards Appeal Board (the SBAS Appeal Board) hears appeals from owners regarding on application of accessibility standards, and orders issued by building officials for compliance with the building and accessibility standards.

Building codes are being continually updated, requiring Building Officials to possess increasing levels of technical knowledge. To assist local authorities appoint qualified candidates the Building Standards Unit (BSU) administers a licencing program.
